The official American Idol website has issued an apology for the reactions of the Judges to the ‘Be Careful’ comment made by Mark Mudd during the Louisville, Kentucky Auditions.
The apology reads:
Clarification From Louisville Auditions
We apologize to any viewers who were offended by the misinterpretation of the contestant’s comment to “be careful” upon completion of his audition in Louisville, KY. Our visits to audition cities are relatively brief and sometimes regional greetings and salutations are lost in translation. We had not heard that phrase from any other contestants during the day, so it took everyone by surprise. We now know better and look forward to visiting Louisville again someday.

Finally!!
Thanks to all that helped with this!
However, I think that American Idol should have apologized personally to Mark Mudd. I also think it needs to be televised.
I’m happy to see AI can admit a wrong doing. =]
I just read on this site that Randy Jackson is from Baton Rouge….surely he has heard this expression??!!
Unacceptable.
It should read “We apoligize for the offensive remarks made by some of our judges. We were wrong, we are sorry, please forgive us”.
And then don’t make excuses.
But Bigmama always told me I was too picky.
I am Mark’s distant cousin, from Bardstown Ky. Idol offered to fly him to hollywood for a televised apology but he declined the offer for some reason, or thats what my mom told me, but i agree that the apology could have been more sincere and dirrected towards him. Thank you for the support, I’m glad we all could see through the publicity stunt
Well Ryan, you tell Mark that he made all of us Kentuckians very proud, he is a true gentleman!
yes i think its enough. it was an honest mistake by the judges, it wasnt for the camera. you could tell in her voice she was genuinely freaked out
Mark was not personally apologised to. Idol did not offer to fly him to hollywood for a televised apology.
I am a close family member.
If they did or they didn’t I would not want to grace their presence again if I were Mark. They could give him a personal apology without the hoopla of dragging him out there.
I didn’t think it was an honest mistake at all!!! I thought they acted very stupidly about it. And I heard nothing but sarcasm in their voices, especially Paula’s. They should have televised an apology to all Kentuckians, whether or not Mr. Mudd came to Hollywood.
